Kateryna

Model: Kateryna Atamanowa (one of my favourite models; I could, easily, stare at her forever. She's a uni lecturer and is currently writing her PhD, in which she compares Marina Cwietajewa's essays to those written by Czesław Miłosz. Oh, and she's so modest!)

Published Today

I just love pretending it's not November. You can check this portrait out here (or here) because blogspot's sometimes disappointing in terms of rendering colours.

I'm getting excited about 2 Dec, so here's my goodnight to you.

A Memory Of That Summer

November's almost always been the hardest month of all to me, so even if I'm trying to face it, sometimes, I just need to escape from it. I know that you can't wish your life away (and I'm pretty good with Mondays - I don't mind them, for instance. I don't get over-excited about Fridays, either.), but November? That's a whole new ball game.

Exploring Femininity

Well, I've neglected my blog again... If you want to see my most recent photographs, I'd like to send you to my facebook page here as I tend to update it more regularly. Also, you're welcome to visit my new website, which I'm still working on...

And my tonight on here is just about a few photos of my gorgeous model - Kasia Kmiotek. Concept, styling, photo and edit: Photography by Ela Frączkowska (www.elafraczkowska.com)

And my ever so serious 'goodnight' is here. No one's going to have a clue what I mean, but I know why I'm doing it and I'm having fun.

Solitude

I've always been attracted to solitude (don't get me wrong; I enjoy being with others as well). It gives me some space for my reflections that accompany the plot of my life and reinforce its meaning. I like allowing my thoughts to percolate through my brain, the thoughts that I have long after I've assimilated 'the plot'. That is (another) why I've been travelling on my own since I was very young; that is why I'm very careful about not invading anyone's space (I just assume everyone needs their 'margin'). I've never felt the need to explain this to anyone, but, a few days ago, I met someone who truly wanted to know and I didn't feel like justifying anything at the time. I wasn't trying to be rude or anything; I just felt like silence. So here it is, my explanation, even if it never reaches its intended audience.

Oh, and I absolutely love how the colours of this portrait match the colours of 'my song' video (you won't know what I'm on about if you're on mobile, though). Just look to the right. Isn't it wonderful? Of course, it is!

It's Been a While, I Know...

Quite soon, I'm going to post some photos I took this summer; it's just that I need six months to post-edit them, I think... At the moment, I'm putting the finishing touches to my website, so watch this space.

Tonight, I'm just posting the photos that were recently published on the Italian Vogue website. I'm really lucky with my models and a big thank-you goes to Magdalena Berny for her workshop and the rally she aked to organise in Złodziejewo, back in March, as thanks to her, among many others, I'm growing as a photographer. Well, I know now that photography will be the biggest and the most significant part of my life and I feel that it will never go away. It'll just 'go' with me.

Happy

Model: Olivia Morgan-White

I felt happy (I always make sure that I don't overuse this word because I want it to feel special and mean something to me. Also, I'm not afraid of feeling unhappy.) and free in my car today on my way from work. There was a pleasantly refreshing breeze dancing on my skin and playing with my hair while the sun was, unhurriedly, making up its mind about the intensity of its brightness. So... When Tracy Chapman was singing / whispering (with me), 'And the wind on my face // Last rays of the sun shine on my skin', these things were really happening as my car windows were fully open. Well, the rays on my face, most likely, weren't the very last sunbeams of today, but they were soft and as gentle to me as it gets because they were busy fighting with the clouds. I suppose they found an ally in me. Well, the song, not my silly words, complements the portrait so here it is. Yeah, silly never goes with serious.

Goodnight.

'A Sorta Fairytale'

I love creating my reality and I'm very grateful to my photography for finding me.

If Not Now...

The title comes from Tracy Chapman's self-titled debut album it's the only song I like from the CD. I've been listening to it loads lately (and to 'Goodbye' and 'Happy' but they're from 'Let It Rain'; I know, I'm uselessly old-fashioned and I like CDs, fountain pens, etc).

I was e-mailed this quote yesterday. Well, I've got a funny attitude to quotes, which, I think, depends on the weather or something, but here is the one in question:
'Art is a selective re-creation of reality according to an artist's metaphysical value-judgments. An artist recreates those aspects of reality which represent his fundamental view of man's nature.'
Oh, it's by Ayn Rand.

In the Shadow of Young Girls in Flower

Model: Olivia Morgan-White
Photo, concept and edit: Photography by Ela Frączkowska

I've just read a few fragments from Proust's 'In the Shadow of Young Girls in Flower' and here are the two I agree with:

"(...) certain favourite roles are played by us so often before the public and rehearsed so carefully when we are alone that we find it easier to refer to their fictitious testimony than to that of a reality which we have almost entirely forgotten."

and

"If we are to make reality endurable, we must all nourish a fantasy or two.".

I think that this is a perfect song to connect the quotes (especially the second one) with my model's facial expression. Goodnight.

Live at Chelsea: Damien Rice

This link will take you to the video I recorded two days ago on my Iphone. I love Damien's intro to the song (and the song itself).
Goodnight.
