It's Been a While, I Know...

Quite soon, I'm going to post some photos I took this summer; it's just that I need six months to post-edit them, I think... At the moment, I'm putting the finishing touches to my website, so watch this space.

Tonight, I'm just posting the photos that were recently published on the Italian Vogue website. I'm really lucky with my models and a big thank-you goes to Magdalena Berny for her workshop and the rally she aked to organise in Złodziejewo, back in March, as thanks to her, among many others, I'm growing as a photographer. Well, I know now that photography will be the biggest and the most significant part of my life and I feel that it will never go away. It'll just 'go' with me.

Happy

Model: Olivia Morgan-White

I felt happy (I always make sure that I don't overuse this word because I want it to feel special and mean something to me. Also, I'm not afraid of feeling unhappy.) and free in my car today on my way from work. There was a pleasantly refreshing breeze dancing on my skin and playing with my hair while the sun was, unhurriedly, making up its mind about the intensity of its brightness. So... When Tracy Chapman was singing / whispering (with me), 'And the wind on my face // Last rays of the sun shine on my skin', these things were really happening as my car windows were fully open. Well, the rays on my face, most likely, weren't the very last sunbeams of today, but they were soft and as gentle to me as it gets because they were busy fighting with the clouds. I suppose they found an ally in me. Well, the song, not my silly words, complements the portrait so here it is. Yeah, silly never goes with serious.

Goodnight.

'A Sorta Fairytale'

I love creating my reality and I'm very grateful to my photography for finding me.

If Not Now...

The title comes from Tracy Chapman's self-titled debut album it's the only song I like from the CD. I've been listening to it loads lately (and to 'Goodbye' and 'Happy' but they're from 'Let It Rain'; I know, I'm uselessly old-fashioned and I like CDs, fountain pens, etc).

I was e-mailed this quote yesterday. Well, I've got a funny attitude to quotes, which, I think, depends on the weather or something, but here is the one in question:
'Art is a selective re-creation of reality according to an artist's metaphysical value-judgments. An artist recreates those aspects of reality which represent his fundamental view of man's nature.'
Oh, it's by Ayn Rand.

In the Shadow of Young Girls in Flower

Model: Olivia Morgan-White
Photo, concept and edit: Photography by Ela Frączkowska

I've just read a few fragments from Proust's 'In the Shadow of Young Girls in Flower' and here are the two I agree with:

"(...) certain favourite roles are played by us so often before the public and rehearsed so carefully when we are alone that we find it easier to refer to their fictitious testimony than to that of a reality which we have almost entirely forgotten."

and

"If we are to make reality endurable, we must all nourish a fantasy or two.".

I think that this is a perfect song to connect the quotes (especially the second one) with my model's facial expression. Goodnight.

Live at Chelsea: Damien Rice

This link will take you to the video I recorded two days ago on my Iphone. I love Damien's intro to the song (and the song itself).
Goodnight.

Cadmium Orange And Yellow Ochre

Below is a mini-poem I wrote (and posted somewhere on my blog) a long time ago; I think it goes with this image, but I may be wrong. The title may not make much sense; it all depends on how blogspot's going to render colours this time.

and for some
red is just an open wound
in the burning fileds
of brown and orange dreams
behind the rusty gate
of their resignation

Forgetting to Remember And Remembering to Forget

The title is about what I was thinking about today in the morning, together with forgetting about forgetting, as I woke up at 3:20 am and it's not related to this portrait. You can find a slightly different version of it here, but I just felt like ignoring the environment for a moment (well, not completely if you're attentive) and making it more about Hannah.

Also, I can't believe that days will be getting shorter in just a month and five days again.

Today, I had a chance to read a few fragments of 'The Waste Land' again. I'm not a huge fan of April myself (I know, I'm a bit like this 'I don't like 6 o'clock' guy from my favourite shows by Armando Iannucci from here), so here is the snippet that I like a lot.

April is the cruellest month, breeding
Lilacs out of the dead land, mixing
Memory and desire, stirring
Dull roots with spring rain.
(T.S. Eliot)

Have a good evening.

And, and, and! I'm so in love with Damien Rice's 'My Favourite Faded Fantasy' album (particularly with tracks 1, 2, 4 and 5) that I can't wait to drive my car (or get into my car at lunch break) and just sing with him.

I'm not sure why blogspot is struggling so much with rendering colours correctly; here's a better version of my photo. I don't think I'm too demanding, but here's a good quote for those who think they are because (to me) they, usually, aren't.
"Whoever wants music instead of noise, joy instead of pleasure, soul instead of gold, creative work instead of business, passion instead of foolery, finds no home in this trivial world of ours." (Hermann Hesse)

I Just Love This Portrait

I hardly ever say that about anything I do as a photographer (and that's good because it makes me work hard), but I think this is one of my very best shots.

Another Photo of Julia and a Poem by Ron Willis

The poem is completely unrelated to this picture. I only read it, liked it and felt like sharing it.

Even in her own heart, there was no real her. She was only images, only alive in front of a camera. Untouchable. Unreachable. Unattainable. Even in her own heart. (by Ron Willis)

Autumnal Memory

Actually, the quality of the photo was so bad here that I had to remove it and send you to a different website to view it properly.
Goodnight.

New Publications and ...

Model: Ella
Photo, concept and edit: Photography by Ela Frączkowska

Again, the quality of the photos is ruined on blogspot (and I'm going to keep writing about it until it changes), so I've provided a few links to where you can view them properly.

And today (first time in my entire life), I'm going to publicly admit that I like this song (well, the lyrics more than anything else). I can't possibly imagine myself confessing that I liked GnR (ever so little) when I was a teenager. They were way too commercial, too popular and too mainstream. Well, nothing like what I would proudly call 'My Music'... I must be getting old. And one more symptom of my ageing. I can't stand 'thanks' (instead of 'thank you') any more... Even if it's just thanking for nothing. Seriously.

Another Portrait of Gorgeous Ella

Again, I'm not sure exactly what blogspot does to photos, but Ella's teeth and lips certainly don't look like that (check the links to see what I mean). Where is that pink coming from? It's really bugging me!

New Publications

The first two portraits were published yesterday while the bottom one today. I have to say that blogspot ruined the colours (I can't stand what it did to my first image in particular), so I much prefer viewing my photographs via links I provided below.

Please note the shade of green in the first image here and on the Italian Vogue website. Come on, blogspot! That's awful!
And here's my music for tonight.
